Eli Xhaferi, MD
Dr. Xhaferi is a Board Certified Orthopedic Surgeon with subspecialty fellowship training in joint replacement. After high school, he served in the US Army as a biomedical technician for six and a half years and received an honorable discharge. He went to college at Austin Peay State University in Tennessee and graduated Medical School from the University of Louisville in Kentucky.
Dr. Xhaferi did his Orthopedic Residency at Geisinger Medical Center in Pennsylvania and his fellowship in Adult Joint Reconstruction at Wake Forest Baptist Health in North Carolina. After his fellowship, he practiced at Mercy Hospital in Joplin, Missouri where he was the lead physician in developing their total joint replacement program.
Dr. Xhaferi offers hip replacement through a direct anterior approach. This approach has been shown to offer potentially faster recovery and improved early mobility. The anterior approach to total hip replacement is a muscle sparing approach. The technique allows working between the muscles without disturbing them resulting in less surgical trauma and potentially less pain and earlier recovery.
Dr. Xhaferi also performs total knee arthroplasty without the use of a tourniquet. This technique has been shown to result in reduced muscle injury, reduced postoperative pain and less thigh pain after total knee arthroplasty potentially resulting in earlier recovery.
Originally from New York, he and his family moved to Fredericksburg, Virginia in October of 2018. When Dr. Xhaferi is not at work, he enjoys spending time with his family, skiing, swimming and working out.
